STEPFORD PUPILS (Laura)

I don’t know about you but I hated getting my school photograph taken and hated even more the fact that my geeky school days will be immortalised forever on my parent’s mantelpiece. If there was such a thing as airbrushing back then I would have asked for it. Now, an Australian school has taken the controversial move to airbrush their class portraits, after some of the pupils came across as messy in the pictures. Whilst this may seem harmless enough, the school didn’t get consent from the pupils before hand and they complained when they couldn’t recognise themselves in the photos – one girl had even been given a bouffant hair style making her look completely different. Parents at the school also complained that the action could lead to low self esteem and body image problems amongst the girls. Check out the before and after images here.

RESCUE TEAM CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN IN RECYCLING (Pamela)

A man had to be rescued from a clothing recycling bin in Bristol after he got stuck trying to steal some second hand garments.  After being helped into the container by an accomplice, the man got trapped when his partner in crime was spotted and chased off by security staff.  Surely the duo should be commended for their efforts in reducing the costs of shipping the garments, cutting out the recycling middle man. Although maybe next time they should just ask before the fire service make another unnecessary trip.

HOW MUCH ARE MID-LEVEL STAFF WORTH? MORE THAN $50 MILLION EACH, SAYS GOOGLE (Scott)

Search giant Google has shelled out astonishing sums of money to retain two members of staff – who are considered ‘mid level’ in its business. The battle for the finest talent in the tech centre reaches fever pitch as the relentless rise of search and social media drives up the value of key skills. This story is likely to further fuel reports of an unsustainable ‘bubble’ in the tech sector.
