BANKS MYLES METMAST Edinburgh PR ClientHamilton based employer, Banks Renewables has seen its planning application approved, allowing it to install a meteorological measurement mast (a Met mast) to measure wind on a site in the Scottish Borders.

Scottish Borders Council gave their permission for the mast to be installed in January and construction is now set to start on February 16th 2015.

Banks Renewables submitted the plans to erect the mast at a site in Heriot, which will help establish in the design of the proposed Hunt Law wind farm development.

Miles Crossley, senior business development manager at Banks Renewables said: “This stage of a wind farm development is very exciting. With the construction of the met mast on site we move into the detailed technical design and environmental assessments phases.

enabling us to come up with the most sensitive possible design for the project.”

Banks Renewables is considering proposals for a new wind farm at the site, which could involve up to seven wind turbines, each up to 125m high.

The firm will be engaging in extensive consultation with local people to discuss these plans, involving community councils in Heriot and in the neighbouring Midlothian communities of Tynewater and Moorfoot.

Miles added: “We have already had a number of meetings with community groups in the area and while we are still in the relatively early stages of the project we intend to continue to develop these relationships and ensure the local communities are kept fully informed.

BANKS MYLES METMAST Edinburgh PR Client-1“The input and feedback of local families and business will be hugely important over the coming months. Local people will have an opportunity to get involved in these proposals. Our experience shows more active community participation results in better outcomes for all concerned.

“If the wind farm goes ahead it will bring a host of social, economic and environmental benefits to the area south of Gorebridge and we want that to happen in partnership with the community.

“It will also help Scotland to reach its renewable target for 2020, as wind energy becomes an integral part of the Scottish economy.”

Banks Renewables has extensive experience of working in partnership with local communities across Scotland and the United Kingdom to successfully design and develop new energy schemes.

Banks Renewables has developed similar innovative projects elsewhere, and results have included the creation of jobs and training initiatives, direct funding to community groups, and the delivery of major environmental projects.
