Meter maids make it on to national TV with help from Edinburgh public relations agency

And the man behind the giveaway could scarcely believe his eyes when the stunt features on the evening TV news.

Paul Dickens arranged the handout to celebrate a successful year for his property letting business, Alba St Andrews. He wanted to give something back to the people of the picturesque Fife town – so dreamt up the £1000 giveaway for one of the busiest shopping days of the years.

For several hours the team, all from a local modelling agency, handed out £1 coins to feed the parking meters for motorist stopping on busy South Street and Main Street,  both of which have notoriously efficient traffic wardens.Paul Dickens on STV

Mr Dickens said he wanted to lighten the load for local people at a busy time of year by taking one main stress out of their lives – that last minute scramble for changes when parking.

News of the parking bonanza – which took place in St Andrews on Friday, December 12 from noon-2pm – was picked up my numerous media outlets.

The DC Thomson owned title sells 50,000 copies every day, reaching somewhere in the region of 150,000 readers – while the story and pictures also appeared on the Courier website, reaching tens of thousands more readers.
