GUESTS at the grand opening of boutique hotel Fraser Suites Edinburgh received an unusual memento of the occasion – a special “modernised” edition of the Edinburgh Courant.

Edinburgh Courant edition designed by Holyrood PR PR in ScotlandThe Edinburgh Courant was one of the UK’s first regional newspapers and its original home in the late 1880s was on the site of Fraser Suites.

The commemorative issue featured a range of news articles about modern life in Edinburgh, including stories about city author Ian Rankin and the ongoing tram project, as well as adverts for iPods and deep fried mars bars, written in an old-fashioned Victorian style.

That meant guests were able to read about Edinburgh’s new mechanical “horseless carriage” project and how the city’s industrial gardez loos were overflowing thanks to the bin strike.

Heather Gilchrist, Regional General Manager for Frasers Hospitality Scotland, said: “We were delighted with our special edition of the Edinburgh Courant, which captured both the vibrancy of modern-day Edinburgh and the classic feel of a Victorian newspaper.

“They were a big talking point of our grand opening and I’m sure they will be fabulous souvenirs for all of the people who came from around the world who came celebrate the launch of Fraser Suites Edinburgh.”
