APRIL FOOLS??? (Linsay/Laura)

Today is April Fools Day a day where us grown ups have a genuine excuse to be silly and take part in all kinds of mischief for 24 hours. But there are a string of silly stories doing the rounds today which we at the Holyrood office can’t help but wonder whether they are real or just plain silliness! The DRUM has nicely rounded a few up which include iPod apps for apes and 3D Paint and we have added some of our own links which are also slightly dubious ferrets working underground and unicorns at the Tower of London – take a read and decide for yourselves!

PEDALS OF FURY (Scott)

Bicycle stunts look great in movies, but this frill-free video taken during a crazily dangerous-looking bike run is properly adrenaline pumping. Enjoy the ride!

TRAVELING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT (Laura)

A series of light painted super cars have been travelling round some of the UK’s top landmarks, providing some impressive illusionary artwork using the science of light refraction. Artist Marc Cameron and photographer Mark Brown have created the pieces individual to each car and The Telegraph has chosen to show an image of a Lamborghini outside the Tower of London. They look pretty impressive, so keep your eyes peeled for one at a landmark near you.

INSANE IN THE BRAIN (Adrian)

Zack Snyder’s new movie Sucker Punch may have been critically derided as one of the worst films ever, but it has brought a much-used horror staple back into the media – the humble lobotomy.

To mark this fact, science and culture site io9 has created a brief and heart-breaking history of the lobotomy – showing its scientific origins, its development as a medical cure and the people whose lives were broken as a result of the controversial brain surgery.

CARTOON STARS (Andrea)

Arnold Schwarzenegger joins a list of celebs and music stars that have been made in cartoons – here’s a list of who they are. Of course this article excludes everyone who was turned yellow for The Simpsons.
