Expert Advice to Help Plan the Future of Public Buildings

Space Solutions Press releases

Space SolutionsWorkplace design specialist Space Solutions is to advise the managers of Scotland’s public buildings on how to meet their toughest ever challenges.

A team from Space Solutions have been invited to address 300 delegates at the influential A Climate for Change conference in Glasgow on November 18.

The event will focus on the key strategic and practical issues managers of Scotland’s public sector estate are facing as they look to meet stringent Government efficiency targets and respond to demands to become more sustainable and energy efficient.

As part of the day-long programme of events, they will hear from Space Solutions, which is Scotland’s largest, independent expert in helping businesses manage changes within the workplace – including design, build, fit out, refurbishment and relocation.

Director Derek Binnie said: “We’re delighted to be given the chance to speak directly to the people who manage the nation’s portfolio public buildings and properties.

“They are facing major challenges – the same as those being addressed in the private sector – to make those properties more productive, while also becoming more sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

“What we can do is provide practical advice on how to make the most efficient use of their portfolio.  We can give the vital help to managers to enable them to ‘sweat their assets’ to ensure the maximum return.  That can range from an all-encompassing environmental audit to working out the sq ft cost per employee.

“That is the very essence of the Space Solutions service.  By meticulously applying the science of space planning and workplace analysis, we’ve been able to help clients yield significant business savings, achieve most productive use of property and help motivate staff.”

Derek was part of a four-strong team which led a management buyout of Aberdeen-based Space Solutions in 2007.

Space Solutions’ 130-strong team works across five UK bases to provide expertise in architecture, space planning, interior design, construction, project management and relocations. These are available as individual services or as start-to-finish solution.

Space Solutions also offers Sustainability Services, helping businesses become more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Derek will be joined at the event by Managing Director Steve Judge and architect Angus Smith – as well as Catriona McPhee-Smith of learning and disability charity, Inspire, which worked with Space Solutions last year to create its multi-purpose centre in Aberdeen.

The firm has an extensive track record in working with the public sector, particularly in understanding the demands faced by property managers.

Earlier this year it completed a £280,000 refit of British Waterways Scotland headquarters in Glasgow.

Derek added: “We want to establish Space Solutions as the first place public sector managers turn to when they need to make a change to their working environment.
