Day Care service overwhelmed by five figure donation from grateful daughter

Bield Housing And Care Press releases

Bench 2A Day Care Service has been blown away by the generosity shown by a grateful daughter who left £10,000 in her will as a thanks for all the help it had given her mother over ten years ago.

Danette McColl-Stobie left the substantial figure to Munro Court in Glasgow when she passed away to acknowledge all the amazing work carried out by the staff organising social activities which her mother, Margaret McColl, enjoyed whilst she was alive.

Margaret attended the Day Care service provided at Munro Court until she passed away over ten years ago and there had been no contact with Danette. Now, a full decade later, the generous sum has been left in Danette’s will to show her appreciation for the work done at the development.

Julie McLoughlin, Assistant Manager at Munro Court said: “We are completely overwhelmed with the donation we received from Danette.

“As Margaret used our services a long time ago very few of the staff at Munro Court had the pleasure of working with Margaret or speaking with her daughter Danette, but we will be eternally thankful for this wonderful donation.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance and enrich the lives of those who use the services at Munro Court and we are so pleased that Danette obviously felt we are doing this.

“Our day care service provides opportunities for older people to enjoy companionship and take part in a variety of activities, we have around 12 to 18 people attend daily and this money will greatly benefit them in number of ways.”

The first purchase made by the staff at Munro Court with the donation was a memorial bench in memory of both Margaret and Danette, which now takes pride of place in the garden.

Julie said: “We wanted to dedicate a memorial bench to show our appreciation, but we’ve also been able purchase a number of things to help entertain the residents and organise some day trips.

“We bought a projector, a CD player and lots of board games and puzzles, and then asked our residents to pick their favourite DVDs and CDs for us to buy. It will be great to have everyone sharing their favourite films and music with each other.

“We have organised a number of summer outings to places like the Willowbank Hotel in Largs and booked a day trip on the Seagull Trust Cruises, but there is lots more we can do with such a generation donation and there has been a real buzz even just planning what to spend it on.”

Bield is a registered charity that came from humble beginnings, starting out with just one development in Bo’Ness to become a major provider of a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 23 local authority areas. It has seven Day Care services across the country.
