STV Edinburgh have featured an article on the readiness of Telford College’s students and staff who are expected to donate a pint of blood.

The event to be held at the college on the 27 October hopes to attract as many people as possible to boost the supplies which are in great demand.  More than 100 students and members of staff are already expected to donate their blood to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion service.

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service attended Fresher’s week to drum up support for donations and took the details of those wanting to take part.  The support was obvious as the learners were literally queuing up to take part.

Sam Lamond, Student Services Coordinator at the college, is ecstatic at the support shown by the learners.  She said: “I suppose their eagerness comes from the fact that many of them can relate to the importance of giving blood as a lot of people have someone in their lives who have been affected by illness or who have required urgent medical attention which has led to a blood transfusion.

The core purpose of SNBTS is to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Scotland, is extremely happy that Edinburgh’s Telford College’s students are lending a hand to those who really need their help.

Gillian Pow, Donor recruitment officer for SNBTS, said: “We would like to sincerely thank Edinburgh’s Telford College for helping us highlight the need for blood donors.

“I would encourage anyone who has never given blood or who hasn’t donated for a while to come forward and do their bit to help save and improve the lives of patients throughout Scotland.”

The College has a vested interest in educating its learners about medicine offering courses studying many aspects of nursing and human biology.
