Community to Learn More about Levenhall Development

Cala Land & Planning Press releases

Cala HolmesA renowned housebuilder is offering the local community the chance to learn more about a proposed development within Musselburgh and to provide feedback that will help shape the plans.

CALA Homes (East) will set out its intentions for a development of high quality homes at Levenhall, during a public exhibition.

The project, which is identified in the Council’s Local Development Plan, will provide the location for much needed homes and follows a Proposal of Application Notice, which was sent to local Councillors and Community Councils by housebuilder CALA Homes, in late 2015.

Rod Howat, Planning Manager with CALA Homes (East) said: “This development at Levenhall is a real opportunity to make sustainable use of land within the town of Musselburgh, providing a variety of much needed homes in an area of extremely high demand.

“We look forward to meeting with as many interested local people as possible and for the chance to share our initial proposals, which is an essential part of the due planning process.

“Designing and seeking approval for a development is a long process and we are still in the early stages. The exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for local people to offer their views and feedback, which helps in fine-tuning the proposals,”

A formal submission of the detailed application is expected to take place in Spring 2016.

The site at Levenhall is part of the eastern edge of Musselburgh, to the north of the A199 Haddington Road. It is framed to the north by mature woodland, whilst the existing housing at Ravensheugh Crescent and Beggars Bush sets the context to the west of the site. The land to the East is given over to agricultural use.

Levenhall is next to a main bus route and is very close to the Wallyford Park & Choose site and rail halt. The amenities of the Lagoons at Levenhall Links and the Golf Course are a short distance to the north and secondary and primary schooling is available within the town.

The development would include houses of all sizes, with a focus on quality family homes. A quarter of the homes would be affordable housing and the development would also include areas of amenity open space and new landscape planting.

The public exhibition will take place from 2-8pm on Tuesday, February 9 at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre, Haddington Road.
