Bield Appeals for Volunteers in West Lothian

Bield Housing And Care Press releases

Bield Blackfaulds Court, Bield’s Retirement Housing development in Fauldhouse, is looking for volunteer Social Activity Assistants and Befrienders to help expand social activities offered to tenants.

In the past, social activities within developments have proven to be a huge success, with tenants enjoying the opportunity to interact and socialise with others in their community.

Blackfaulds Court are looking for Befrienders who can offer one-to-one companionship for tenants, as well as introducing them to other social activities within their community or development.

The development is also looking for Social Activity Assistants to help run various social events, including helping out with bingo nights, games afternoons and with the development’s gardening club.

Cheryl Baillie, Manager at Blackfaulds Court, believes that these initiatives really benefit the lives of tenants by helping to get them out and about and build friendships along the way.

She said: “These programs offer a valuable opportunity to help an older person remain active and socialise within their community and development.

“Our Befrienders can provide companionship and encourage socialising between tenants, whilst our Social Activity Assistants help out with all sorts of fun activities.

“We are hoping we can encourage green fingered volunteers to help out with our gardening club, doing activities such as pulling weeds, helping with planting and pushing the wheelbarrows.

“We are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of our tenants and the positive feedback we have already received regarding Befrienders and Social Activity Assistants proves that they are incredibly beneficial for our tenants.”

Times and dates for volunteers are flexible though some possibilities include Monday from 2pm to 4pm and fortnightly on a Wednesday from 10am to 12 noon.

Bield is a registered charity that came from humble beginnings, starting out with just one development in Bo’ness and now provides a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 23 local authority areas.
