A BANKS Renewables competition to encourage pupils to read at a Borders School received strong local press attention.

Over 30 children at Hawick Trinity Primary School, aged between 3 and 12, took part in the Commonwealth Reading Awards, an initiative aimed at encouraging children to read more books at school and home.

Hamilton based wind energy firm, Banks Renewables, sponsored the activity, providing 26 gold, three silver and five bronze medals, before attending the special award ceremony on to present them to the delighted winners.

Pupils took part in reading challenges linked to a commonwealth sport, including speed reading and reading in pairs, earning points 13 NOV SOUTHERN REPORTER P28 CROP to useas they finished each challenge.

Local press The Border Telegraph and the Southern Reporter both ran with the story, providing Banks Renewables and Trinity Primary School positive PR in the local area.
