VITAL preparatory infrastructure works ahead of construction of a South Lanarkshire wind farm have been completed.

Lambhill Road is the access point for contractors involved in the construction of the 88MW Kype Muir Wind Farm site. .

The 800m stretch of road had reopened after a short term closure agreed as the best option following consultation with the council and the 20 local residents along Lambhill Road.

Paul Denning, a resident of Lambhill Road, said: “Working with Banks Renewables has been a seamless experience. They have kept us informed through every stage of the development ensuring we are fully in the loop. We are really pleased with the investment in the local areas and also the development of Lambhill road.”

Widened from single-track to a 5.5 metre, two-lane carriageway the road will also include new passing places to account for the heavier traffic associated with construction. The works were carried out by local contractor RJ McLeod.

This being the latest element of site works completed under Banks Renewables’ ground breaking Connect 2 Renewables commitments with over 90 per cent of the £750,000 contract value supporting regional businesses via main contractor RJ McLeod’s.

Banks Renewables’ development director Colin Anderson said: “Completing the upgrade at Lambhill Road is an important marker in the construction and opening of a site that will bring substantial benefits to the people of South Lanarkshire and shows that our commitment to the local economy in south Lanarkshire is working with recent contracts going to local firms.

“The improved access to the site enables us to begin construction proper and make progress towards producing clean, green energy for the people of Scotland.”

RJ McLeod and Raeburn Geotechnical have secured contracts on the site ensuring that spending on the site remains within the local economy.
