9 MAY John Halliday CROPA big-hearted nephew has been so impressed by the care his Aunt receives he’s taking to his bike to raise money for the charity service.

John Halliday, 36, is cycling 220 miles from his hometown of Aberdeen to Mallaig on the west coast of the Highlands in aid of Bield, who provide facilities and services to his Aunt at the St Andrews Court care home in Uphall, West Lothian.

As one of Scotland’s largest specialist providers of Housing and Care for older people, Bield is a registered charity that relies on donations to fund life enhancing extras.

John has roped in some pals to join him on his trip, they will hit the road in June and are also raising funds for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.

John said: “The fantastic care services my Aunt receives from Bield have inspired me to fundraise and having seen the services first-hand I know their users will benefit from any money donated.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge, but I plan to finish on the Skye Bridge so it will be a nice place to end up and hopefully by then it wall all seem worth it.”

Brian Logan, Chief Executive at Bield Housing & Care, added: “Individual donations including sponsored events like these allow us to provide life-enhancing services and opportunities such as outings and social activities, so those in our care can continue to live life to the full.

“Fundraisers like John and his friends are vital to Bield and we are hugely appreciative of their efforts.”

Bield has grown from humble beginnings, starting out with one housing development in Bo’ness in 1971, to becoming a major provider of a wide range of housing and services for around 20,000 older people across 22 local authority areas.
